PGA Season Gets Underway

Best Bets:

1 Pt E/W Brooks Koepka (22/1 Bet 365)

1 Pt E/W Emiliano Grillo (55/1 Bet 365)

After the drama of the Presidents Cup last week the new PGA Tour season starts on Thursday with the Frys.com Open. Rory Mcilroy headlines a strong field in what should be a good opener to the season. We like a couple of players for this week’s event and think they could get their seasons off to the perfect start. A few players initially grabbed our attention and we considered both Hunter Mahan and Hideki Matsuyama. Both of these players got close to our final selection. In the end we factored in that Mahan hadn’t played for a number of weeks and Matsuyama had a busy schedule last week so we chose to avoid these two.

This week the Frys.com Open will take place at the Silverado North Course as was the case last year. The course boasts a mass of dogleg holes, meaning players will really need to shape their shots both ways over the week to succeed.

Our Tips:

1 Pt E/W Brooks Koepka (22/1 Bet 365)

Our headline tip is Brooks Koepka, who looks good value this week. Koepka went well on this course a year ago finishing inside the top 10 so he clearly likes the layout. He is also carrying some strong current form with his last finish being a T2nd at the Dunhill Links. Koepka will have felt hard done by to miss out on a Captains pick for the Presidents Cup, and we think he might go out and prove a point this week with a strong showing.

1 Pt E/W Emiliano Grillo (55/1 Bet 365)

This 23 year old from Argentina is undoubtedly a superstar in the making. Earlier this month he won the Web.com Tour Final securing his PGA Tour Card for 2015. He can clearly win under pressure, and will be feeling very confident running into this opening event. Grillo is a pure ball striker and has ranked high on the GIR European Tour Stats in the last few years. We think he could have a strong showing this week and very much go under the radar.
